The differences between 95% zirconia beads and 65% zirconium balls

2025-11-17

Translation of Zirconia Beads vs. Zircon Silicate Beads Sometimes zirconium silicate is also called zirconia, because zirconium silicate beads are also known as 65 zirconia beads with a zirconia content of 65%. Zirconia beads are generally 95 zirconia beads with a zirconia content of 95%. The higher the zirconia content, the whiter the product. Zirconia beads and zirconium silicate beads are different, specifically in appearance and performance. Zirconium silicate is generally yellowish-white, dull and opaque. Zirconium silicate beads are made of zirconium silicate powder, featuring low price and a pale yellow color. Zirconia beads are off-white, made of zirconia powder. They have higher performance and lower wear rate than zirconium silicate beads. Currently, zirconia beads are widely used in grinding and dispersion fields. Grinding is mainly applied in sand mills, while dispersion is mainly used in high-speed agitator mills. For example, when using a sand mill to grind ink, zirconia abrasives are required. The ink here mostly refers to gravure ink with relatively low viscosity, which has very high requirements for fineness—this is where zirconia beads come into play. With high density and good toughness, they can grind materials to the nanometer level when used with high-speed horizontal sand mills, resulting in better ink quality. Some industries with high requirements for ink clearly specify that the ink used must reach the nanometer level. In terms of dispersion applications, zirconia beads are mainly used in vertical agitator mills for rapid dispersion and mixing of materials. Rapid dispersion and mixing of materials is a technical difficulty, but the combination of agitator mills and zirconia abrasives can solve this problem well. Through the force of stirring blades, the beads move at high speed randomly in the materials, greatly improving mixing efficiency—dozens of times higher than that of ordinary mixers. Application fields of zirconium silicate beads: mainly used for grinding and dispersion in industries such as calcium carbonate, kaolin, zircon sand, titanium dioxide, pigments, dyes, inks, and coatings; also applicable for metal surface treatment such as shot peening and polishing.zirconia ball (8).jpg
