Comparison between Ceramic Corrugated Packing and Metal Structured Packing

Ceramic corrugated structured packing is mainly made of silicoaluminate acid-resistant and chemically corrosion-resistant ceramic material, which can withstand temperatures up to 1300℃, with an operating temperature range of down to -100℃.The product features strong chemical corrosion resistance: it can resist all inorganic acids, organic acids, acidic gases and neutral gases except hydrofluoric acid (HF).

At present, the largest ceramic structured packing tower has reached 11 meters in diameter, and it can also be used in towers with a diameter as small as 100 mm. It can operate under both vacuum and pressurized conditions.It is widely used in various absorption and desorption unit operations, and has achieved excellent results in hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid industries, gas industries, waste gas purification treatment, desorption and degassing devices, etc.

Ceramic structured packing is composed of many packing units with identical geometric shapes.The unit body of ceramic structured corrugated sheet packing consists of corrugated sheets stacked parallel to each other.According to the different vertical inclination angles of the corrugations, it can be divided into two types: Type X and Type Y.Type X has an inclination angle of 30°, and Type Y has an inclination angle of 45°.

Metal structured packing includes perforated plate corrugated packing, mesh plate corrugated packing, perforated and embossed plate corrugated packing, wire mesh corrugated packing, and ring corrugated packing.

Perforated plate corrugated packing is a structured packing assembled by punching holes on thin metal sheets and forming large corrugations.It features low resistance, uniform gas-liquid distribution, high efficiency, large flux and insignificant scale-up effect, and is used in vacuum, atmospheric and pressurized operations.

Wire mesh corrugated packing marks an important milestone in the development of structured packing.This packing is composed of corrugated wire mesh sheets with an inclination angle of 30° or 50°, arranged in opposite directions.When installed in the tower, the upper and lower discs are stacked with a 90° stagger.It has the advantages of high efficiency, low pressure drop and large flux.Common types include BX and CY, which are widely used in vacuum distillation, atmospheric distillation and absorption processes for difficult-to-separate and heat-sensitive systems.

Perforated and embossed corrugated packing is a structured packing made by first rolling dense small embossed holes on thin metal sheets, then forming them into corrugated plates and assembling them.The special surface embossed structure improves the wetting performance of the packing and maintains the performance of metal wire mesh corrugated packing.
